| On August 14, 1975, James M. Bailey, Paul Phlemon, and Richard Vessy were riding their motorcycles westbound on Interstate 80. As they approached the overpass, two and one half miles west of Colfax, Vessy and other witnesses reported hearing and seeing flashes from a number of shots that rang out from an area along the northeast side of the overpass. James Bailey fell from his motorcycle, both the motorcycle and Bailey rolled into a ditch along the northside of Interstate 80 West of the overpass. |
