GAMING OPERATIONS BUREAU The Riverboat/Pari-mutuel Gaming Enforcement unit consists of 39 Special Agent II's and 68 Special Agent I's which are assigned to Iowa's 18 state-licensed gaming venues. Agents are responsible for conducting criminal investigations, background investigations, and providing regulatory enforcement at each of these gaming venues. During fiscal year 2008 agents conducted 966 criminal investigations which included theft, burglary, forgery, assaults, cheating at gambling games, trespassing, disorderly conduct, minors gambling, and alcohol/controlled substance offenses. Also during fiscal year 2008 agents conducted 1,895 background investigations ranging from extensive backgrounds completed on high level gaming company executives to backgrounds conducted on employees working in gaming-related positions (cashiers, cage employees, security guards, surveillance operators) to backgrounds conducted on employees working in non-gaming related positions (housekeeping, valet staff, stable workers, kennel staff). Regulatory enforcement duties at Iowa gaming venues include extensive review and approval of each gaming venue's surveillance system including all cameras, recording equipment, and storage devices; inspections of all table games, cards, dice, pit stands, and other areas of the casino; and enforcement of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission Rules and Regulations.
