QUALITY ASSURANCE

The Iowa DCI Crime Laboratory has a robust quality assurance program that is demonstrated and monitored by participation in an accreditation program offered by ASCLD/LAB (American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board).  The laboratory was first accredited under ASCLD/LAB’s Legacy program requirements on September 11th, 2000 and later transitioned to ASCLD/LAB’s International Testing program under ISO/IEC 17025:2005 on June 24th, 2011 (and has been continuously accredited since that time).

The Iowa DCI Laboratory accreditation status may be verified at http://www.ascld-lab.org and the laboratory’s scope of accreditation may be found at http://www.ascld-lab.org/cert/ALI-170-T.pdf.

Forensic laboratory accreditation involves internal audits and external assessments that evaluate management practices, personnel qualifications, technical procedures, proficiency testing and laboratory facilities.  The laboratory is committed to maintaining a progressive quality assurance program involving continuous improvement to processes within the forensic environment.
