Welcome to The Finance Bureau
The Finance Bureau provides support to all divisions within the Iowa Department of Public Safety.
In addition to processing over 17,000 general claims for payment, this bureau processes purchasing paperwork, personnel documents for nearly 1,000 employees with more than $56 million in annual payroll and maintains the Department's Fixed Assets Control System. All revenues received by the Department are processed by the Finance Bureau. The Bureau performs the pre-audit function for all claims paid to ensure that all applicable laws and rules are adhered to.
Finance Bureau personnel are responsible for preparing the Department's $73 million annual budget request and financial management of $6 million in federal grants. Financial planning for the Department of Public Safety is provided by the Finance Bureau through monthly financial statements reflecting estimated financial position.
The Bureau also provides cost estimation for the Department of Personnel during biennial collective bargaining negotiations with the State Police Officer's Council. Administration of the $225 million Peace Officers' Retirement, Accident and Disability System is conducted by the Bureau serving over 400 retired members and widows and 620 active members. Monthly benefits are in excess of $950,000 for members on service or disability retirement.
