With certain exceptions, firms and individuals engaging
in bail enforement, or providing private investigative or security
services in Iowa are required to be licensed by the Iowa Department of
Public Safety. The statutory requirements are set out in Iowa
Code Chapter 80A. Administrative
rules of the Department of Public Safety regulate the operation of
private investigative and security businesses in Iowa.
License application packets are available at a cost of $15.00 by mail
or $10.00 if picked up at our office. If you wish a packet sent to you,
please send a check payable to the Iowa Department of Public Safety in
the amount of $15.00 to the address below. For your convenience, the forms
for application and letters of instruction are available below in .pdf
format. All applicable forms must be filled out and submitted before
the next part of the process to obtain a license may begin.
