The Iowa Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau is a subdivision of the Iowa Department of Public Safety.  Each state is required to have a highway safety program consistent with the uniform guidelines issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). 

The Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) administers the State of Iowa’s allocation of federal highway safety funds authorized on December 4, 2015, when President Obama signed into law P.L. 114-94, Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act which authorizes the federal surface transportation programs for highways, highway safety and transit. 



To identify traffic safety  issues and, through partnerships with city, county, state  and local organizations, develop and implement strategies to reduce deaths  and injuries on Iowa's roadways utilizing federally-funded grants to improve traffic safety  in the State of Iowa.

Real-time Vehicle Safety Information Now Available 

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is the nation’s leading authority on vehicle-related safety.  Real-time vehicle safety information from the web site is now available to consumers using iPhones and iPod Touches through a new, free app.

The app allows users to search NHTSA’s 5-Star Ratings for vehicles by make and model; locate car seat installation help; file a vehicle safety complaint; find recall information and subscribe to automatic notices about vehicle recalls.
