ISP RELEASES DASH CAM VIDEO OF AUGUST 10, 2009 HIGH SPEED CHASE

Des Moines, IOWA --- On 08-10-09 at 3:50 p.m. Iowa State Patrol (ISP) assisted the North Liberty Police Department with a vehicle pursuit on eastbound Interstate 80.  The driver of a black Toyota Camry with Mississippi plates was driving in a reckless manner at a high rate of speed. Iowa State Troopers were able to bring the chase to an end safely, without injury to the public, the vehicle's occupants or law enforcement officers.

North Liberty Police began pursuing a black Toyota Camry with Mississippi plates that was southbound on Highway 965.  The pursuit continued onto eastbound Interstate 80 reaching speeds of 80-100 mph.  North Liberty continued the pursuit into District 12 where ISP joined the pursuit at the 260 mile marker of Interstate 80 eastbound.

The black Camry reached speeds of over 100 mph while the driver drove in a very reckless manner and passed several vehicles on the shoulders of the Interstate.  One Trooper was able to pull up directly beside the Camry and the driver swerved in his direction nearly causing a collision.  The Camry was swerving all over the road and in and out of traffic.  Several attempts were made to box the Camry in, however they were unsuccessful as the Camry would make a very unsafe pass on the shoulder or swerved in between traffic.

At the 274.5 mile marker a Trooper had pulled in front of the Camry and slowed the vehicle down by blocking it off so a pass was not permissible.  Another Trooper was pulling up to the left side of the Camry in an attempt to box the vehicle in when the driver of the Camry moved to the left striking the second Trooper's patrol car.  The Camry immediately began to spin and entered the median coming to rest facing south.  The Camry was blocked in by two other patrol cars. One patrol car made contact with the Camry in the median.

Both subjects were removed from the vehicle and taken into custody.  The passenger was identified as Quincy L. Bryson, age 29, of Michigan City, Mississippi. He was later released.  The driver Jason Hervey, age 29, of Memphis, Tennessee, was transported to the Cedar County Jail.  Several traffic charges were filed on Mr. Hervey.

One patrol car did sustain damage to the left front.  No injuries were sustained to members of the motoring public, ISP personnel, nor the two occupants.
