Des Moines, IOWA --- Travel is not advised in parts of Central Iowa according to the Iowa State Patrol. Motorists in Story, Jasper and northern Polk counties are experiencing blowing snow, low visibility, and slick roadways that are making travel treacherous. A towing restriction is in effect in these areas. High winds could cause major problems for motorists in high profile vehicles.

Colonel Patrick Hoye, Chief of the Iowa State Patrol said, “We want drivers of high profile vehicles to take extreme caution. High winds can cause a semi to roll over. All drivers should keep a close eye on changing weather conditions, and travel only if necessary.”

As this latest round of storms moves through the state of Iowa over the next 24 hours, remember to monitor the Iowa Road Conditions Web Site at www.511ia.org.  If you don’t have access to the internet, call 5-1-1 from a touch tone phone.  Winter road condition information is uploaded to both the web site and phone system regularly by the Iowa State Patrol as Troopers travel throughout the state, updating the changing road conditions.
