Brooks, IOWA --- At approximately 4:59 p.m., a 911 call came into the Adams County Dispatch center in reference to shots fired at 2415 Hickory.  Upon arriving at the residence, the deputy was fired upon.  The deputy returned fire and retreated from the residence.  The deputy was treated for minor injuries.

Prior to the deputy's arrival, one victim escaped the house and was taken to a local hospital and was then airlifted to Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.  At this time the condition of the victim is unknown.

Members of numerous local police departments and sheriff's offices responded to the scene.  An Iowa State Patrol negotiator then spoke with the suspect, who was still in the residence.

At approx. 8:30 p.m., the suspect came out of the residence and surrendered to members of the Iowa State Patrol tactical team.

The investigation is ongoing.
Note: A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
