Des Moines, IOWA --- Numerous law enforcement agencies across the state will be participating in a Mobile EYES (Every Youth Exhibiting Safety) campaign this weekend, bringing awareness to Iowa teens about the need for safety when driving in Iowa.

This enforcement and public awareness effort will center on the new anti-texting laws, as well as seat belt use and speed.   Officers will also keep an eye out for teens drinking and driving, as the Homecoming season is upon us.  Before the weekend arrives, teen drivers across the state are encouraged to brush up on their driving skills, not only because it’s the law, but because it’s their life.  The Centers for Disease Control reports motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for US teens—accounting for one in three.

Project coordinator Jim Meyerdirk commented, “Once Every Youth is Exhibiting Safety in Iowa, our roadways will be a safer place for not only teen drivers, but every motorist, as they travel the scenic byways in Iowa.”

The voluntary saturation patrols will run Friday, September 17-Saturday, September 18, 2010.
