Harlan, IOWA --- The Douglas County Medical Examiner has completed the autopsy on Julio Caceres.  The Medical Examiner determined Caceres died from gastric aspiration attributable to alcohol intoxication.

At approximately 1:00 a.m., Saturday, October 9th, 2010, 17 year old Julio Caceres of Harlan, Iowa, was taken to the Myrtue Medical Center, in Harlan, in an unresponsive condition.  He was later transferred to the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha where he died on Monday, October 11, 2010.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was contacted for assistance and is conducting an investigation into the incident.  The preliminary investigation indicates that Caceres, and several other teenagers, were drinking alcohol inside a Harlan residence at 1626 Victoria St.  Caceres became unresponsive and was driven to the hospital by a few of the teenagers present at the residence.

If you have any information that may be of assistance to investigators, please contact Jessica Lown at (515) 725-6189.

Note: A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
