CHARGES FILED IN CONVENIENCE STORE SHOOTINGS

Algona, IOWA --- On November 15, 2010, two convenience store clerks were shot and killed during two separate armed robberies.

According to the complaint and affidavit filed in Kossuth County Court, the first incident took place at the Crossroads Gas Station and Convenience Store located at 107 Hwy 18 West in Algona, Iowa. At approximately 9:05 p.m., Vicky Bowman-Hall, 47, was working behind the cash register when she was approached by a man wearing a ski-mask who demanded cash and cigarettes. Bowman-Hall complied with the request and was shot. Bowman-Hall died of her injuries at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, Iowa.

At approximately, 10 p.m., the same subject entered the Kum and Go Convenience store at 1212 8th Street North in Humboldt, Iowa where he shot and killed cashier Sheila Myers, 61. Myers died at the scene from her injuries. Autopsies on both women will be performed at the State Medical Examiners office in Ankeny, Iowa.

Michael Richard Swanson

The suspect was located at McDonald's in Webster City and was taken into custody without incident by members of the Webster City Police Department, the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa State Patrol.

Michael Richard Swanson, 17, from St. Louis Park, Minnesota has been charged with Murder in the First Degree and Robbery in the First Degree. He is currently being held in the Kossuth County Jail. Swanson will be tried as an adult.
