ONE FOUND DEAD IN LEE COUNTY BAR FIRE |

Wever, IOWA --- At approximately 2:34 a.m., emergency responders were called to the Green Bay Tap at 3546 170th Street in Wever, Iowa on report of a fire. Once on scene, firefighters battled the fire for several hours before the flames could be extinguished. Due to the extent of damage, the building is considered a total loss. The State Fire Marshal's Office was called in at 3:10 a.m., to assist in the investigation. Also to aid in the investigation, and insure his safety from the fire, officials made contact with bar owner Jeff Edwards of Burlington, Iowa. Upon examination of the fire scene, investigators found one person deceased inside the Green Bay Tap. The identification of the deceased will not be released until positive identification can be made through autopsy, and notification to next of kin can be completed. The cause of the fire is currently undetermined as investigators continue their investigation. Assisting at the scene were the Office of the State Fire Marshal, Wever Fire Department, Denmark Fire Department, West Point Fire Department, Burlington Fire Department, Fort Madison Fire Department, Lee County Sheriff's Office and the Lee County EMS. |
