Advisory to Media on Coverage of Funeral Services for Sgt. Eric Stein

VISITATION:
Visitation for 39 year old Sgt. Stein, Keokuk County Sheriff’s Office, will be held Friday, April 8, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Sigourney Jr/Sr High School.  The family has agreed to allow one still photographer to photograph the honor guard as they watch over Sgt. Stein prior to the start of the visitation.  All members of the media will have access to these photos.

FUNERAL:
The Funeral for Sgt. Stein will be held Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 1:00 PM, also at the Sigourney Jr/Sr High School.  A media staging area, including a parking area for live trucks, has been set up on the grounds of the High School.   The high school is located at 907 E. Pleasant Valley, Sigourney, Iowa.  It is suggested that media wishing to cover the funeral arrive no later than 11:00 AM.  To access this media staging area, you must travel west to east along E. Pleasant Valley St., then turn south on Marion Court.  You will be directed to park from there.  (If you travel east to west along E. Pleasant Valley St., your route will be blocked by patrol cars staging for the processional.)
The family of Sgt. Stein is allowing one pool still photographer to cover the funeral.  These photos will be made available to all members of the media.  No video coverage will be allowed.

PROCESSIONAL & GRAVESIDE SERVICES:
Immediately following the funeral, a processional will escort Sgt. Stein to the Garrett Cemetery in rural Keokuk County for a graveside service and final internment. The processional will begin at the Jr/Sr High School, travel west along E. Pleasant Valley St. and then thread through the town of Sigourney, passing through the town square and past the Sheriff’s Office.  From there the processional will travel north out of town on 200th Ave.  Then, motorists will proceed west on Hwy 22, south on Hwy 21 and east on Hwy 92, to arrive at the cemetery at 145th Ave. and Hwy 92.

The family of Sgt. Eric Stein has graciously agreed to allow video and still photo coverage of graveside services.  Video coverage will be conducted via a video pool feed provided by KCCI, News Channel 8 in Des Moines.  One pool still photographer will also be allowed near the graveside services.  All media will have access to the video and still photos.  Additionally, a media staging area has been designated for other photographers wishing to cover the graveside services.  It is suggested media wishing to cover the graveside services arrive no later than 2:00 PM.

Items of interest for coverage at the graveside services include the 21 Gun Salute, Taps, Honor Guard and fly-over.
