Names Released in Nevada Officer Involved Shooting

Nevada, IOWA --- The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is releasing the names of the Nevada officer and man slain in the April 10, 2011 officer involved shooting, as well as the nature of the 911 call.

At 2:55 AM, Nevada Police Officer David Johnson, a two-year veteran of the Nevada Police Department, responded to a 911 call at 637 7th Street, Nevada, Iowa, on the report of a domestic assault.

At 637 7th Street, Officer Johnson met with 39 year old Kevin Alton Johnson. During the interaction, Officer Johnson fired his weapon, striking and killing Kevin Johnson. 

Officer David Johnson and Kevin Johnson are not related.

Per department policy, Officer David Johnson has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

No further information will be released regarding this incident until the conclusion of the DCI investigaion.
