New Troopers, Special Agents Graduate from the Department of Public Safety Academy |

Johnston, IOWA--- Today, 24 men and women were sworn in as peace officers with the Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS) at the 35th Academy Graduation ceremony. They will serve their communities as Troopers with the Iowa State Patrol, and Special Agents with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. The officers completed a 22-week training academy designed to prepare them for readiness to serve as law enforcement officers. Elements of their training included the use of firearms, emergency response procedures, first aid and CPR, tactical driving techniques, and courses on Iowa law. DPS Commissioner Larry L. Noble spoke at the swearing in ceremony, along with key note speaker Gene Shepard, former DPS Commissioner and U.S. Attorney. In a written statement Governor Branstad congratulated the new officers and thanked them for serving the people of Iowa. The Governor wrote, “Law enforcement is a dangerous profession, and your training has prepared you to make solid decisions in difficult situations. I commend you for your professionalism and commitment to protect public safety in Iowa.” The newest DPS employees come from Iowa, Minnesota and North Dakota. They begin active service in their new assignments effective immediately across the State of Iowa. The newest academy graduates are:
