DCI Executes Arrest Related to January Death of an Eagle Grove Child

Eagle Grove, IOWA --- Today, Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at approximately 11:00 AM, officers with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Eagle Grove Police Department arrested 20 year old Kara Crapser in Lehigh, Iowa.  Crapser is being charged with First Degree Murder, a class A Felony, in the death of 5 year old Mikayla Valentine.

On Friday, January 7, 2011, emergency personnel were called to 208 North Wright Avenue in Eagle Grove, Iowa with a report of an unresponsive child.  Mikayla Valentine, age 5, was taken by air ambulance to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She was pronounced dead at approximately 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2011.  An autopsy performed Monday, January 10, 2011, by the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be Abusive Head Trauma.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Eagle Grove Police Department, Wright County Sheriff’s Office, and the Iowa Attorney General’s Office continue to investigate this incident.  Additional charges are pending.
