Additional Information on Worth County Bus Crash

Worth County, IOWA --- Charges are pending against a Northwood man in connection with a hit-and-run accident that took place in Worth County on Tuesday, May 10, 2011.

Seven year old Kadyn Halverson of rural Kensett was pronounced dead at 7:49 AM at the scene of the crash, 4336 Raven Avenue (County Road S-52). Halverson was walking across the road to get on a school bus that was stopped in the northbound lane with its lights flashing and stop sign out. The child was struck by a pickup traveling southbound on Raven Avenue when the driver failed to stop for the school bus that was in the process of picking up Halverson. The driver of the pickup fled the scene and was apprehended a short time later.
 
Taken into custody was Aaron Gunderson, 31, of Northwood. Gunderson was taken to the Worth County Sheriff’s Department for questioning and later released.
 
Evidence collected in relation to this incident has been sent in to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation crime lab to be processed. Due to the case load of the State Trooper Technical Investigator, it is estimated that results of the evidence collected will not be available for at least a month. Any charges against Gunderson are pending the results of the processing of evidence.
