State Patrol Kicks Off Another Year of Safe Saturdays! |
Des Moines, IOWA --- Starting this weekend, Iowa State Patrol Troopers will continue their annual effort to reduce the number of crashes and traffic violations on Saturday evenings. This year, 2011, will be the third year the State Patrol conducts Safe Saturday enforcements. As in 2009 and 2010, Troopers will maintain a high visibility presence on the roadways in order to deter to would-be speeders and drunk drivers, and ultimately save lives. The dates listed below indicate Safe Saturday enforcement work for the various State Patrol Districts. Click here to view the State Patrol’s district jurisdiction map.
A specific breakdown of the major enforcement categories from Saturdays during the month of June 2006 - 2008 vs June 2010 is reflected in the chart below:
(Years 2006-2008 reflect total Saturday enforcement prior to the implementation of the Safe Saturday program. The average of the 2006-2008 enforcement totals was used to compute the 2010 percentage increases) The enforcement statistics are impressive. However, a more telling indication of the success of Safe Saturdays is the steady decline in Saturday fatalities during the month of June. June, 2010 surpassed June, 2009 as the safest June on record since 1946. ### |
