Notice: Weekend Electric Vehicle Safety Training Cancelled

Ames, IOWA --- The Electric Vehicle Safety Training scheduled for Saturday, August 27, 2011 in Ames, Iowa has been cancelled. The scheduled instructor resides along the east coast of the United States, and has chosen to remain near his home and work to effectively respond to Hurricane Irene.

The Electric Vehicle Safety Training will be reschedule. This course is part of a nation-wide program to train first responders in every state who will increasingly face electric vehicles and electric vehicle fires.

"We're very disappointed to learn the class has been cancelled, as this was going to be an excellent opportunity for Iowa firefighters to begin preparing for encounters with the increasing number number of vehicles running on alternative fuels or power sources," said Fire Service Training Bureau Chief Randy Novak. "However, the class will be held at another time and we will do our best to circulate that date when it is finalized."

About NFPA’s Electric Vehicle Safety Training Project
NFPA’s Electric Vehicle Safety Training project is a nationwide program to help firefighters and other first responders prepare for the growing number of electric vehicles on the road in the United States. The NFPA project, funded by a $4.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, provides first responders with information they need to most effectively deal with potential emergency situations involving electric vehicles.
