Law Enforcement Officials Conduct Death Investigation in Coon Rapids, Iowa

Des Moines, IOWA --- On Saturday, September 3, 2011, approximately 1:00 p.m. police and paramedics were called to a residence in Coon Rapids for a male that was involved in an altercation.  The male was identified as 28 year-old William Smith.  Smith was taken to St. Anthony Regional Medical Center in Carroll for treatment and later flown to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.  Smith was pronounced dead late Sunday afternoon, September 4, 2011.  An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday in Des Moines.
 
The altercation took place at 762 6th Avenue in Coon Rapids where Smith resided with 2 other subjects.  All parties involved in the incident are cooperating with the investigation.  No additional details are being released at this time.

The Coon Rapids Police Department is being assisted by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
