Colorado Springs, CO --- The Iowa Department of Public Safety received a highly coveted award which recognizes professional excellence in law enforcement from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), an international law enforcement accrediting body. CALEA is the combined effort of four major law enforcement organizations, International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), National Sheriff’s Association (NSA), and the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), to establish a body of standards designed to:
The Commission provides law enforcement agencies an opportunity to demonstrate that they meet an established set of professional standards. To achieve this award, the Iowa Department of Public Safety underwent a lengthy process that included establishing or revising policies and procedures, including an independent third party review by CALEA assessors to assure that it met the over 400 standards required of law enforcement agencies.
