Investigators Arrest Burlington Man for Arson Exactly Three Years After Fire

Burlington, IOWA---On November 30, 2011, 45 year old John Marland of Burlington, Iowa was arrested by law enforcement officials upon the completion of an investigation into a December 1, 2008 fire investigation.

On December 1, 2008, a fire occurred to the residence of Christine Maxwell, located at 1832 Dehn Street, Burlington, Iowa.  The Burlington Fire Department, with assistance from the Burlington Police Department and the Iowa State Fire Marshal Arson and Explosive Division, conducted a lengthy investigation into the origin and cause of the fire.

On November 30, 2011 a felony arrest warrant was issued for John Joseph Marland.  Marland was charged with Arson 2nd, a Class C Felony.  Marland was arrested on November 30, 2011 without incident.

It should be noted a criminal charge is merely an accusation and all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
