Ogden Man Arrested in Death of Wife

Ogden, IOWA --- On Sunday, October 21, 2012, at approximately 10:00 AM, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office communications center received a 911 call.  The 911 call was placed by 28 year old Josh Andrew Powell. He stated that his wife was deceased inside the home located at 101 West Cherry Street in Ogden.  The Ogden Police department responded and found Josh Powell waiting outside the residence upon their arrival.  Ogden Police entered the residence and found 25 year old Jacalyn Powell deceased. Court records show Josh Powell admitted he and his wife had an altercation last night, October 20, 2012, inside the residence.  Powell said that during the fight, he intentionally struck Jaclyn Powell resulting in her death.  Joshua Powell stated that he checked Jaclyn Powell’s pulse and she did not have one. 

Complaint & Affidavit

Powell was transported to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office where he was subsequently arrested on a charge of Murder in the First degree. Powell is currently being held in the Boone County Jail on $2 million bond. 

An autopsy of Jacalyn Powell will be conducted by the State Medical Examiner’s office in Ankeny, Iowa tomorrow, October 22, 2012.

The investigation is being conducted by the Ogden Police Department, Boone County Sheriff’s office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

It should be noted a criminal charge is merely an accusation and all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
