Hardin County, Iowa --- Today, November 2, 2012 at approximately 2:47 PM, the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office received an E911 call requesting Deputies respond to 22626 I Ave in rural Hubbard, Iowa.  An individual had reportedly shot at a vehicle as it went past this residence.

Hardin County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the reported location.  During the attempt to apprehend the alleged shooter, Sheriff Timothy Smith confronted 17 year old Richard Awe-Kramer of Marshalltown, Iowa.  Preliminary information indicates Awe-Kramer raised a weapon toward Sheriff Smith and refused commands to drop the weapon.  Sheriff Smith discharged his weapon, striking Awe-Kramer. Awe-Kramer was immediately air lifted to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines for treatment.  His present condition is unknown

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was called in to investigate the incident.  More information will be released as the investigation continues.
