Preliminary Information Regarding the Dayton Abduction.

Des Moines, IOWA --- On Friday June 7, 2013 at 6:59 p.m. the Boone County 911 received a call of a possible body seen in the Des Moines River just northwest of Boone.  This was in a log jam beneath the Kate-Shelley High Bridge.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and found the body, which was partially covered/ concealed by logs/ debris. The body was that of a yet to be identified female.

Preliminary results indicate the body to be Kathlynn Shephard.  Zip ties were found with the body which are consistent with those used during the Dayton abduction on May 20th.  The clothing with the body is also consistent with what Kathlynn was last seen wearing.

An autopsy is scheduled for 9AM this morning at the State Medical Examiner’s Office.  Official identification of the body will be determined by the State Medical Examiner.

For questions, contact Assistant Director Gerard Meyers at 515-249-7266
