Department of Public Safety Concludes Personnel Investigation

Des Moines, IOWA --- DPS adheres to the state’s policy of maintaining confidentiality in personnel matters.

The Department acknowledged in a press release on Tuesday, June 9th, 2013 that allegations of work rule violations against Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Larry Hedlund exist.  Furthermore, the Department states these allegations are unrelated to the complaint of the April 26, 2013 incident involving an on-duty state trooper in a state owned vehicle.

The confidential personnel investigation into allegations of work rule violations by SAC Hedlund concluded on July 17, 2013.  Disciplinary action resulted from the investigation.  SAC Hedlund did not receive discipline as a result of his complaint of the speeding state vehicle.

While DPS is unable to provide additional information regarding the specific allegations of this investigation, SAC Hedlund through his attorney has already acknowledged the existence of potential work rule violations. Attorney Thomas Duff has been cited by the Des Moines Register indicating "Hedlund was suspended based upon allegations that included insubordination and 'what I would consider minor rule violations'.”
