Orange City, IA – Charges of Willful Injury and Child Endangerment Causing Serious Injury have been dismissed without prejudice against 33 year old Rochelle Sapp of Orange City.

Sapp was providing daycare services to 3 year old Autumn Elgersma, also of Orange City, on October 29, 2013.  An incident occurred in Sapp’s home with the child that resulted in Elgersma being hospitalized with severe head trauma and Sapp being charged.  Elgersma died as a result of those injuries on October 31, 2013.  Sapp Motion to Dismiss Sapp Dismissal Without Prejudice

Law enforcement initially filed charges against Sapp when Elgersma was still alive and hospitalized.  Now that Elgersma has died, more serious charges are being considered against Sapp.  As a result, the initial charges have been dismissed without prejudice against Sapp.  Final charging decisions will be made upon completion of the autopsy and any additional laboratory testing as well as the review of Elgersma’s medical records and investigative reports.
