Denison, IOWA --- On Monday, March 10, 2014, at approximately 12:45 p.m., the Crawford County Communication Center received a 911 phone call which alerted emergency personnel to a fire at 1872 Milford Road, Deloit, IA. The Deloit Volunteer Fire Department, Denison Fire Department, and Vail Fire Department and Crawford County Sheriff s Office responded to this address to investigate the 911 call where they then discovered the main dwelling on the property, and a pickup truck, were found to be engulfed in flames.
Authorities are currently investigating the fire scene. Two bodies were recovered from within the fire scene where they were later transported to the Iowa Office of State Medical Examiner. Autopsies of the bodies were performed by Dr. Michele Catellier at the Iowa Office of State Medical Examiner on March 11, 2014. The cause and manner of death cannot be released at this time as the case is under active investigation. Identification of the bodies is pending official confirmation.
Additionally, authorities are currently seeking additional information related to this event. A newer, dark in color, extended cab pickup truck, occupied by two white males, was seen near the area of the fire scene and may have witness information related to this event. The Crawford County Sheriff's Office is being assisted by the Deloit Volunteer Fire Department, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the State Fire Marshal's Office, Iowa State Patrol and the Denison Police Department.
