Guthire Center, IOWA -- The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a burnt out vehicle on March 30, 2014. Upon arriving at the scene, the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office discovered a body inside the vehicle. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office then requested the assistance of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
On Thursday, March 27, 2014, the United States Marshals Service put out information on a subject that had a warrant out for violation of parole status. The subject was also suspected in driving a Honda Accord that was reported stolen by the Waukee Police Department.
The investigation has found that the burnt up vehicle was the stolen vehicle. The body was found inside the vehicle. The vehicle was processed for evidence and the body was transported to the Iowa State Medical Examiners Office in Ankeny, Iowa.
The Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner, with the assistance of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, has confirmed the identification of the body which was discovered in the vehicle to be that of Bobby Joe Knapp. An autopsy was performed on March 31, 2014, by Dr. Julia Goodin. The cause and manner of death are still pending further investigation and lab testing.
The investigation by the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, Division of Criminal Investigation, and the United States Marshal Service is ongoing.
