DPS Combats Bullying by Offering Resources

Des Moines, IOWA – The Iowa Department of Public Safety’s Iowa State Patrol and Criminal Investigation Division are teaming up to combat bullying in our state.

In conjunction with Governor Branstad’s initiative to shed light on the critical issue of bullying, the Iowa State Patrol and Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) have sent letters to all Iowa public school districts, in partnership with local police departments and sheriff’s offices, listing resources offered for bullying prevention and investigating crimes that result from bullying.

The State Patrol’s Safety Education Officers (SEOs) and Division of Criminal Investigation Special Agents assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children’s Task Force, have programs and educational materials that can be provided to schools to heighten awareness about bullying.

“It is our hope that increased awareness will go a long way towards preventing bullying,” DPS Commissioner Larry Noble said, “The Iowa Department of Public Safety is prepared to assist local police departments and sheriff’s offices to investigate cases of reported bullying. Together we can work to end bullying in all aspects.”

For questions or requests related to Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) resources, contact Special Agent in Charge, Nate McLaren, Iowa DCI, (515) 965-7400.

For questions or requests related to the Iowa State Patrol’s SEOs Anti-Bullying Prevention/Outreach, contact Sgt. Scott Bright, Iowa State Patrol, (515) 745-2863.
