Ohio Homicide Suspect Arrested in Iowa

DOWS, Iowa -- On October 25, 2015, around 10:20 a.m., the Iowa State Patrol stopped a vehicle travelling north bound on Interstate 35 at the 153 mile marker, near Dows, Iowa, travelling at 98 mph. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Burley Blankenship, age 34, of Cleveland, Ohio.

Blankenship was wanted regarding the death of his mother, Chrisann Blankenship, 54, in Cleveland, Ohio, on the evening of October 24, 2015.  The Iowa Department of Public Safety's (DPS) Iowa State Patrol (ISP) and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), along with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, took Blankenship into custody and coordinated with the Cleveland, Ohio Homicide Division on the investigation. 

Blankenship is currently in custody in the Hamilton County Jail in Webster City, Iowa, for Theft 2nd Degree and traffic charges and is under detainer for authorities from Cleveland, Ohio. 

Note: A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
