Name of Trooper Released in Washington Co. OIS

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Iowa -- The Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) can confirm that Iowa State Trooper Jewel O'Rear was the trooper responsible for discharging her state-issued service weapon during the motor vehicle chase that led to the shooting in Washington County on October 1, 2015.

The DCI has interviewed Trooper O'Rear. Her interview, along with other investigative facts that have been collected, will be forwarded to the Iowa Attorney General's Office for review.

Trooper O'Rear is a 15 year veteran of DPS, and has been employed as a State Trooper for 7 years. She remains on duty for the Iowa State Patrol.

No additional information will be released at this time.

PREVIOUS RELEASE:

The Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has identified all three occupants of the suspect vehicle in the officer-involved shooting incident in Washington County on Thursday, October 1, 2015. Their identities and charges are:

  1.  Tiffany R. Reed, 26, of St. Louis, Missouri, has been charged with one count of Interference with Official Acts and was also arrested for two Theft-2nd Degree warrants; one from Blackhawk County and another from Dallas County. Reed was identified as the driver of the suspected vehicle.

  2. LaFonda Davis, 30, of St. Louis, Missouri, has been charged with one count of Interference with Official Acts

  3. Tia D. Reed, 22, of St. Louis, Missouri, has been charged with one count of Interference with Official Acts.

Furthermore, the DCI can confirm the one shot fired by the Iowa State Trooper was into the drivers’ side rear tire.  The name of the Iowa State Trooper will be released once interviewed.
