Cause of Death Released in Fort Dodge Fire

Please note: This is a joint press release from the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankney and the Iowa Department of Public Safety's (DPS) State Fire Marshal Division (SFM). The State Fire Marshal Division is assiting with this investigation.

Fort Dodge, IOWA -- On February 23, 2015, autopsies were performed at the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner by Jonathan Thompson, MD, Associate State Medical Examiner, on the bodies recovered from inside a home after a fire at 703 4th Avenue North in Fort Dodge, Iowa. 

Amy Devlin (age 25), Bryce Devlin (age 6 months), and Joseph Kennedy (age 5) were positively identified as the fire victims.  The cause of death for each of the victims has been determined to be from smoke inhalation.  The manners of death will be certified as accident.
