Man Charged in Logan Hit and Run

LOGAN, Iowa – On July 4, 2015, at approximately 11:00 PM, a Harrison County Deputy Sheriff and a Logan Police Officer came upon a female body on the side of the road near the 115 mile marker of Highway 127, on the north side of Logan. Officers discovered the female was deceased upon their arrival and it appeared she was a victim of a hit and run.

The victim has been identified as Charlotte Anderson, 50, of Logan, Iowa.

Anderson’s body was transported to the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner  in Ankeny, Iowa, where an autopsy was performed by the Chief State Medical Examiner Julia Goodin, MD, on July 5, 2015.  Anderson’s death has been ruled a homicide.

On July 5, 2015, at approximately 7:00 AM, an Iowa State Patrol Trooper located a suspicious vehicle in Logan that appeared to have front end damage consistent with evidence located at the scene of the hit and run.

On the afternoon of Wednesday, July 29, 2015, an arrest warrant was issued for Austin Arndt, 25, of Logan, Iowa, for Homicide by Vehicle (B Felony) and Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death (D Felony).  Early on the morning of July 30, 2015, Arndt turned himself in to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, where he was booked in.  Arndt was able to post $25,000.00 bond and has been released.
