Arrest Made in DeWitt Shooting

DEWITT, Iowa -- On August 28, 2015 in the Iowa District Court of Clinton County, arrest warrants were issued for 26-year-old Alejandro Andres Lira for his role in the August 11, 2015, shooting of Michael Dewispelaere.  The shooting occurred at approximately 11:11pm in front of the DeWitt Police Department-DeWitt Iowa. 

Warrants were for:

Kidnapping – 2nd Degree (Iowa Code Section 710.3) a class B felony
Robbery – 1st Degree (Iowa Code Section 711.2) a class B felony
Attempted Murder (Iowa Code Section 707.11) a class B felony

A class “B” felony is punishable by up to 25 years in prison. (Iowa Code § 902.9.)  

During the evening hours of September 4, 2015, Alejandro Andres Lira was located in Denver, Colorado, and subsequently arrested by the Denver Area Fugitive Task Force.  Lira is currently housed in the Denver County jail and the extradition process is underway. 

The incident is being jointly investigated by members of the DeWitt Police Department, Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, Moline IL Police Department and the Denver Area Fugitive Task Force (Denver, Colorado)
