Midwest Academy Search Warrants Complete, Investigation Continues

KEOKUK, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation’s (DCI) Major Crime Unit, Special Enforcement Operations Bureau (SEOB), Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC), Crime Lab Crime Scene Team, State Fire Marshal Division (SFM), Division of Intelligence and Fusion Center (DOI) and Iowa State Patrol (ISP), in partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office executed two search warrants around 12:30PM yesterday, January 28, 2016, at the Midwest Academy campus (2416 340th Street, Keokuk) and Midwest Treatment Center (2818 Hwy. 218, Montrose).

The search warrants stem from an investigation of alleged sexual abuse involving a staff member of the Midwest Academy and a former student of the Academy.  This is the only allegation that the Iowa DCI has received at this time involving the Midwest Academy.

The Midwest Academy is a therapeutic boarding school that enrolls students from across the nation and around the world.

The Iowa Department of Human Services was called to assist with this investigation. As a result DHS investigators have currently conducted 28 assessments at the Midwest Academy.

No charges have been filed or arrests made at this time. Agents continue to work together to thoroughly investigate this very complex, large area.

The FBI is involved with this investigation and has a separate federal investigation underway. No further information will be released on the FBI investigation.

Anyone with information about the Midwest Academy that may be beneficial to this investigation is urged to call 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324). This is NOT a phone line for the media.
