Join the Iowa DPS at the 2016 Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES, Iowa – Join the Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS) and its Divisions and Bureaus at the 2016 Iowa State Fair.

The Iowa DPS’s booths are housed in the Hall of Law and Flame, under the Grandstand.

This year the Iowa DPS’s Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) will have a virtual tour of the DCI Criminalistics Laboratory, the only crime lab in the state. The DCI will also have a new walk-through crime scene that allows fairgoers to be an Honorary DCI Special Agent for the day and work the crime scene to figure out who committed the crime.

The Iowa State Patrol (ISP) has a coloring booth for kids, along with several handouts and safety tips. The ISP also has a brand new State Patrol Charger on display.

The Division of Narcotics Enforcement (DNE) will feature a new framed display with all of the current drug paraphernalia.

The State Fire Marshal Division (SFM) has several handouts, a Plinko game, a Detector Dan cutout for kids and several burned items from house fires to show safety tips.

The Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) has the Wheel of Knowledge for all fairgoers and prizes, along with several freebies.

The Professional Development Bureau (PDB) will have all the information you need to know about careers within the Department of Public Safety. If you are interested in a future career in law enforcement or the civilian-side, you need to stop by this booth.

The Interoperability Communications Bureau has scanners and radios that are found in all of our Iowa State Patrol cars and giveaways for visitors to this booth.

The Department of Public Safety will also have displays and handouts on the newly formed Office to Combat Human Trafficking, which is part of the DPS.

The DPS’s Iowa State Patrol Troopers are responsible for patrolling the State Fairgrounds and encourage visitors to report any suspicious activity that they witness to the closest law enforcement.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety hopes all fairgoers have a safe and enjoyable time at the Iowa State Fair and will stop by the DPS booths to visit.
