Former Pastor Charged with Sexual Exploitation

SPENCER, Iowa – On May 16, 2016, an investigation was opened into allegations of sexual misconduct by Kevin Grimes (age 51) who was the Pastor of the Day Springs Church and the CEO of the Spencer Dream Center in Spencer, Iowa.  On May 18, 2016, Mr. Grimes resigned from both the Day Springs Church and the Spencer Dream Center. 

The investigation was conducted in coordination with the Spencer Police Department, Clay County Attorney’s Office and the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).  Through interviews of witnesses and Mr. Grimes, it was discovered that Mr. Grimes was providing counseling services for several people.  Mr. Grimes had textual conversations of a sexual nature and also shared nude photographs of himself with people he was counseling.  Investigators also learned that Mr. Grimes had also had a sexual relationship with people he counseled.

Kevin Grimes has been charged with three (3) counts of SEXUAL EXPLOITATION BY A COUNSELOR, THERAPIST, OR SCHOOL EMPLOYEE 709.15(2)(a)(1) (Engaged in a pattern, practice or scheme to engage in sexual conduct) which is a which is a Class D felony and two (2) counts of SEXUAL EXPLOITATION BY A COUNSELOR, THERAPIST, OR SCHOOL EMPLOYEE 709.(2)(a)(2) (Engaging in a sexual act) Aggravated Misdemeanor.

Kevin Grimes turned himself in to authorities late Wednesday afternoon.  Mr. Grimes posted $5,000.00 bond.  Mr. Grimes is due back in court on August 31, 2016.
