Iowa GTSB Receives International Awards

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Public Safety's (DPS) Iowa Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) has been honored as the recipient of two international media awards this year.

The "Rockstars Ride in Limos" TV public service announcement is a Bronze winner in the 37th Annual Telly Awards, and the "Rockstars Ride in Limos" radio public service announcement is a Bronze winner in the 2016 International Safety Media Awards. The spot was created in 2015 by The Integer Group, and supports efforts to encourage drivers and passengers to find a safe ride home if they have been drinking alcohol. The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and honors outstanding content in TV & Cable, Digital and Streaming, and Non-Broadcast. Each year, the Telly Awards receive over 13,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries, and it is a great honor to be selected as a Silver or Bronze winner. A panel of over 500 accomplished industry professionals judged the competition, recognizing entries that showed distinction in creative work and against a high standard of merit. Less than 10% of entries are chosen as winners of the Silvery Telly, their highest honor. Approximately 25% of entries are chosen as winners of the Bronze Telly. To find out more about the Telly Awards, you can visit their website at www.tellyawards.com.

The International Safety Media Awards, sponsored by the Alaska Injury Prevention Center, were originally presented 10 years ago in Durban, South Africa. Since their inception, hundreds of safety promoters have been honored for their media by ISMA. Winners are chosen from an international panel of judges, and are awarded in Gold, Silver or Bronze. In 2016, over 100 pieces of media were received from every continent (except Antarctica). The 2016 Awards were announced in Tampere, Finland at the 12th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion.
