Governor Branstad to Recognize National Missing Children's Day Poster Contest Winners

DES MOINES, Iowa --- Governor Terry E. Branstad and the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Division of Criminal Investigation’s (DCI) Missing Person Information Clearinghouse (MPIC) will honor the winners of the annual Missing Children’s Day Poster Contest.
More than 56 fifth graders from across the state participated in this year’s poster contest. The winners will be awarded for their excellence in visually depicting the harsh realities of child abductions, as well as their eternal hope for a safe return of missing kids everywhere. These posters show their compassion for our country’s lost and missing youth, through art.

This ceremony takes place on the three-year anniversary of the abduction and murder of Kathlynn Shepard of Dayton. Kathlynn and her friend Desiree Hughes were abducted by Michael Klunder on May 20, 2013 while on thier way home from school. Desiree managed to escape Klunder, Kathlynn's body was found in early June 2013.

Please join us as we recognize the artists’ hard work and compassion for Iowa’s missing children.
