Cleghorn Man Found Guilty


DES MOINES, Iowa --
In July 2016, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a sexual assault involving a minor female.  The incident occurred at the residence of EDDIE D. DELONG in Cleghorn, Iowa. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s office in conjunction with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation conducted the investigation.  On April 5, 2017, EDDIE D. DELONG was arrested and charged with Sex Abuse in the 3rd Degree (C Felony) and Supplying Alcohol to a Minor (Serious Misdemeanor). 

On November 28th, 2017, this case went to a Jury Trial in Cherokee County, Iowa.  Prosecutors from the Cherokee County Attorney‘s Office and the Iowa Attorney General’s Office tried this case.  After two and a half days of testimony, the jury deliberated for several hours and late on the afternoon of November 30th the jury returned with a guilty verdict on EDDIE D. DELONG (44) for Sex Abuse in the 3rd Degree (C Felony) and Supplying Alcohol to a Minor (Serious Misdemeanor).  EDDIE D. DELONG was taken into custody by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and will remain in custody until his sentencing. The sentencing hearing has been scheduled for 10:00AM February 2, 2018.
