DES MOINES, Iowa -- This is NOT a press release directly from the Iowa Department of Public Safety's (DPS) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI). This is a press release from the Sioux County Sheriff's Office. The DCI is assisting with this investigation.
On Sunday January 28th, the Sioux County Sheriff's Office investigated a report of an unresponsive inmate at the Sioux County Jail. At approximately 6:30 pm, Detention Officers located an unresponsive inmate in a cell and rendered emergency aid.
The rescue efforts were unsuccessful and the inmate was pronounced deceased by the Sioux County Medical Examiner. The name of the inmate is being withheld at this time, and the case will be investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
The Sioux County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Orange City Ambulance and the Orange City Police Department.
