Cresco Death Investigation

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Iowa Division of Investigation has identified the subjects involved in a shooting incident in Cresco, Iowa, on March 1st, 2018.  Officers had responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at 700 South Elm Street #32 in Cresco, Iowa.  Upon arrival, officers were confronted by Brian Fullhart, age 34, at the residence who was uncooperative with officers and threatening to shoot officers.  Fullhart was eventually taken into custody at 6:45 am.  Officers then entered the residence and located the body of a deceased female.  That female was later identified as Fullhart’s wife, Zoanne Fullhart, age 34, of Decorah, Iowa.

Brian Fullhart has been arrested and charged with Murder in the First Degree and Going Armed with Intent.  Fullhart is currently in custody at the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Department in Decorah, Iowa.  

Note: A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Previous Release from March 1, 2018:

On March 1st, 2018, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was asked to assist the Cresco Police Department with a death investigation.  The Cresco Police Department had been called to the area of 700 S. Elm Street at about 1:30 am regarding a shots fired call.  Officers arrived and located a subject barricaded in a residence near this location.  The Cresco Police Department and Iowa State Patrol negotiated with this individual for several hours and were able to take him into custody without incident.  Officers then located the deceased individual inside the residence.  This investigation is on-going.

Names of subjects involved are not being released at this time pending the notification of relatives.

The following agencies are assisting in this investigation: Cresco Police Department, Howard County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
