DAVENPORT, Iowa -- On April 25, 2018, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) was asked to assist the Scott County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) and the Davenport Police Department (DPD) reference a disturbance which had taken place outside the Scott County Courthouse. DCI’s role was to investigate the discharging of a service weapon by a responding bailiff. As previously mentioned in a past press release, two bailiffs and a Davenport police officer responded to the disturbance. Adam Demarcus LAFRENTZ (29 yrs old) of Davenport, Iowa was noncompliant with the directives and orders given to him by the bailiffs and the police officer. During the altercation, Bailiff Timothy HUTCHESON, with approximately 14 years of service with the SCSO, discharged his service weapon, firing one round. LAFRENTZ was not struck by the bullet nor were the bailiff’s or police officer. Additionally, a less lethal device was used by the assisting bailiff which seemingly had little to no effect on LAFRENTZ.
HUTCHESON remains on administrative leaving pending the investigation. DCI’s investigation is ongoing and when the investigation is completed, the DCI will forward their findings to the Scott Count Attorney’s office for review.
No additional information will be released at this time.
