Interstate 29 Cleared and Re-Opened

The Interstate 29 hazmat scene was cleared and the interestate was re-opened to traffic around 11:00 p.m. last night. The carrier involved was Landstar Transport Logistics out of Rockford, Illinois.

Hazmat Spill Closes a Portion of Interstate 29

DES MOINES, Iowa -- At approximately 1230hrs a semi hauling hazardous material was flagged down by a motorist that witnessed a liquid coming from the trailer at the 86mm of I-29. Iowa State Patrol Troopers arrived and accessed the situation. The liquid material was deemed hazardous and the Interstate was shut down both north and south bound.

North bound traffic is being diverted at exit 75 Missouri Valley and south bound will be diverted at exit 112 Onawa to Nebraska.

Tri-County Hazmat and Council Bluffs fire Hazmat team are on location monitoring  the spill and accessing the situation.

It is expected this will be an extended closure at this time.
