Information Released in
Vinton Officer Involved Shooting

The suspect in the Vinton shooting incident was identified by Benton County Sheriff’s Office release, dated September 8, 2018, as Lyle Arthur Fowler JR, age 43, and is currently being held in the Benton County Jail. Fowler was charged as follows:

Iowa Code 708.3A (2) Assault on a Peace Officer with a Dangerous Weapon X 2 (Class D Felony)
Iowa Code 719.1(1) (F) Interference with Official Acts X 2 (Class D Felony)
Iowa Code 808.8 Going Armed with Intent X 2 (Class D Felony)

No injuries were sustained by Fowler or law enforcement.

Names of the officers involved in this shooting incident are Sgt. Benjamin Parmater and Patrol Officer Katlyn Schimerowski of the Vinton Police Department.

Members of the Iowa State Patrol, Benton County Sherriff’s Office, Iowa Department of Natural Resource, and Vinton Fire Department assisted in this incident.

The Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) continues to investigate this incident. No further information will be released until the review of this matter has been completed by Benton County Attorney’s Office.
