Des Moines, Iowa --- Extreme cold, sleet, and ice may all be part of winter, but being unprepared for them shouldn't be. Arrest Made in 1974 Southeast Iowa Homicide Investigation

Ottumwa, IOWA --- Today, law enforcement arrested 66 year old ROBERT EUGENE PILCHER of Des Moines, Iowa in connection with the 1974 homicide of 17 year old MARY JAYNE JONES of Ottumwa.  PILCHER was arrested by Wapello County Sheriff's deputies and agents of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) today at the A-1 Motel, 5500 SE 14th Street in Des Moines, Iowa.

STATE FIRE MARSHAL ADOPTS MILITARY EXPLOSIVE DETECTION CANINE

Des Moines, IOWA --- Today the Iowa Department of Public Safety welcomed its newest employee to the State Fire Marshal Division. Casey is a four year old, tan lab with expertise in explosive detection. She arrived in Iowa today from North Carolina. The free adoption was made possible under a special law enforcement adoption program offered by the State Department of Defense -- US Marine Corp, for canines that return from military deployments overseas.

Northeast Iowa Bank Robbery, Shooting Suspects Identified

Frederika, Iowa --- Law enforcement have arrested and charged two eastern Iowa men after a prolonged search in Bremer County, Iowa late yesterday afternoon and evening. Twenty-four year old Jeremiah Mumford from New Hampton, Iowa is being charged with six counts of Attempted Murder (Class B Felony) and five counts of Terrorism (Class B Felony). Additionally, 19 year old William Clayton from Osage, Iowa is being charged with six counts of Aiding and Abetting (Class B Felony) and five counts of Terrorism (Class B Felony).

Bank Robbery, Shooting Suspects Apprehended Without Incident North of Frederika, Iowa

Frederika, Iowa --- Today at approximately 6:58 PM, local officers who were working on the perimeter of a search area, arrested two men believed to be the suspects in today’s Maynard, Iowa bank robbery, pursuit, and shootings.  The men were attempting to escape the search area and evade officers by crossing County Hwy V5C approximately ¾ miles north of Frederika.  Once spotted by law enforcement, both suspects surrendered without incident.

Cause of Death Determined in Odgen Murder Case

Ogden, IOWA --- The State Medical Examiner's Office has completed an autopsy on Jaclyn Powell. In its findings the medical examiner determined Powell died of asphyxiation due to strangulation. The manner of death is being classified as homicide.

Press Release from Van Buren County Attorney

Van Buren County, IOWA --- The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has provided the Van Buren County Attorney’s Office with evidence and information collected regarding the October 16, 2012 incident between Robert Michael Dooley and Van Buren County Sheriff’s Deputies Brad Hudson and Jon Tharp during which Deputy Tharp shot Mr. Dooley. Mr. Dooley died instantly from a single gunshot wound.

Ogden Man Arrested in Death of Wife

Ogden, IOWA --- On Sunday, October 21, 2012, at approximately 10:00 AM, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office communications center received a 911 call.  The 911 call was placed by 28 year old Josh Andrew Powell. He stated that his wife was deceased inside the home located at 101 West Cherry Street in Ogden.  The Ogden Police department responded and found Josh Powell waiting outside the residence upon their arrival.  Ogden Police entered the residence and found 25 year old Jacalyn Powell deceased.

Parkersburg, IOWA --- A former teacher with the Aplington-Parkersburg  School District was arrested today.  Ashley Anderson, 24 years, of Ackley, Iowa was charged with four counts of Sexual Exploitation by a School Employee (Class D Felony).

Grundy County Deputy Clerk of Court Arrested for Forgery, Perjury

Grundy County, IOWA --- Wednesday, October 17, 2012, agents with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation arrested 42 year old Brigitte Van Nice, of Grundy Center, Iowa.  The Grundy County Deputy Clerk of Court is being charged with two counts of Forgery and one count of Perjury.  All charges are Class D Felonies.

DCI Releases Additional Information Regarding Officer Involved Shooting in Van Buren County

Keosauqua, IOWA --- On October 16, 2012, at approximately 11:00 AM, Van Buren County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched after receiving numerous 911 reports of a male subject wearing a military uniform and armed with a rifle walking westbound along Hwy 2, east of Cantril, Iowa.  The subject was making obscene gestures at passing motorists.

Casey Frederiksen Charged with Murder & Sexual Abuse of Five Year Old Evelyn Miller

Charles City, IOWA --- Today, agents with the Division of Criminal Investigation and the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office charged 33 year old Casey Fredericksen in the 2005 death of five-year-old Evelyn Miller.  Frederiksen is charged with Murder in the First Degree and Sexual Abuse in the First Degree.  Both charges are Class “A” felonies.

Three Individuals Charged with Election Misconduct in Pottawattamie County

Council Bluffs, IOWA --- A DCI investigation into the 2010 and 2011 general and city elections in Pottawattamie County has resulted in three individuals being charged with Election Misconduct (vote fraud), a Class D Felony.  Those charged are 52 year old Albert Harte-Maxwell of Council Bluffs, Iowa;  49 year old Linda Harte-Maxwell of Council Bluffs, Iowa;  and 40 year old Maria Ayon-Fernandez of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

New Statistics Show IA Decreases Child Traffic Fatalities In 2011

Des Moines, IOWA --- Iowa continues to be a leader in child passenger safety with new reports showing the state’s child restraint usage at 94 percent in 2011. Traffic fatalities for children under the age of 14 were down: six children were killed in vehicle crashes in 2011, compared with eight children in 2010.

TRAVEL INFORMATION FOR 2012 FARM PROGRESS SHOW

Boone County, IOWA --- The Iowa State Patrol is preparing for the 2012 Farm Progress Show and asking Iowans to do the same! The show runs from Tuesday, August 28th through Thursday, August 30th, 2012 and will be held at the permanent site located along Iowa 17, just north of U.S. 30 in Boone County. Organizers anticipate 20,000 vehicles will travel to Boone County each day, with an attendance nearing 200,000 during the three-day event.

Law Enforcement Investigating Domestic Dispute, Shooting in Union County

Arispe, IOWA --- Last night at approximately 10:47 PM, the Union County Sheriff’s Office responded to a request for assistance at 203 Park Place in Arispe, Iowa in reference to a reported shooting.  At the scene, deputies located two people suffering from gunshot wounds.  Laura Maxfield-Anderson, 52, and Ronald Anderson, 60, were taken by life flight to a Des Moines hospital for treatment.  Their conditions are not known at this time.

Law Enforcement Heightens Traffic Enforcement Labor Day Weekend

Des Moines, IOWA --- Together with agencies across the nation, Iowa’s law enforcement will participate in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP), an initiative of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).  Officials from city, county, and state law enforcement agencies will execute heightened enforcement on Iowa roads from August 23rd through September 5th.

Des Moines, IOWA --- Early this morning, August 18, 2012, the Des Moines Police Department arrested, 59 year-old Bobby Eugene McGee, the last suspect in the Southern Iowa home invasion in Leon, Iowa. McGee is currently being held in the Polk County Jail.

Person of Interest in Johnson County Shooting Arrested

Iowa City, IOWA --- John Mulbah, age 20,  was arrested tonight, August 17, 2012 at his residence in Iowa City on a charge of Distribution of a Controlled Substance in violation of Iowa Code section 124.401 (1)(C) for events occurring on August 13, 2012.   Bond is set in the amount of $25,000.

Two More Arrested in Southern Iowa Home Invasion, One Suspect Still At-large

Leon, IOWA --- Today, August 16, 2012, law enforcement conducted several search warrants in Osceola, Marshalltown, and Urbandale, Iowa in effort to gain more information about a home invasion in Leon, Iowa. As a result of those search warrants, law enforcement arrested 24 year old Erik Cipriani in Marshalltown, and 22 year old Daniel Fletcher, of Urbandale. Cipriani and Fletcher have both been charged with one count of Robbery in the First Degree (Class B Felony), one count of Burglary in the First Degree (Class B Felony), and four counts of Unlawful Imprisonment (Serious Misdemeanor).

Wall Lake, IOWA --- Three men from Sac County have been charged with 1st Degree Kidnapping, a class A Felony, after an investigation into the 2009 alleged assault of a migrant worker in Wall Lake, Iowa.  Those charged are 26 year old Thomas Schroeder II of Wall Lake, Iowa; 26 year old Steven Schroeder of Odebolt, Iowa; and 42 year old Bradley Jacobsen of Wall Lake, Iowa.

Body Identified in Crawford County

Crawford County, IOWA --- The body that was discovered on June 19, 2012, along the railroad tracks in rural Crawford County, has been positively identified by the State Medical Examiner’s Office.  The identity has been confirmed as being Jonathan Elwell 44 years old of Shillington, PA.  Mr. Elwell was reported missing in April 2012 by the Shillington, PA Police Department after his abandoned rental car was discovered along a Crawford County road.  His body was discovered approximately 1 ¼ miles from where his rental car was found two months prior.

Olds, IOWA --- On April 25, 2012, at approximately 4:30 PM, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol responded to a 911 call placed from a residence in Olds, Iowa.  The caller, 50 year old Debra Layton-Harville, informed the dispatcher that she had been badly beaten by her husband, 43 year old John A Harville. Crawfordsville, IOWA --- The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) are conducting an investigation into the disappearance of a rural Washington County woman.  On January 5, 2012, Sharon R. Hopf of rural Crawfordsville, Iowa, failed to show up at her business in Kalona, Iowa.  Later that evening, Hopf was reported missing by her husband and other family members who had been looking for her throughout the day.

Law Enforcement Conduct Death Investigation in Huxley

Huxley, IOWA --- On Saturday, January 7, 2012 the Huxley Police Department received a phone call in reference to a welfare check on a 22 year old female.  Huxley Police responded to 514 W. Main Ave, Apt. B, in Huxley and learned that the female in question had given birth to twins at her residence. The twins did not survive.  The female was taken to a local hospital.

STATE FIRE MARSHAL REPORTS 186 LIVES SAVED BY SMOKE ALARMS IN 2011

Des Moines, IOWA --- The Iowa Department of Public Safety, State Fire Marshal Division reports 2011 ended with 186 people saved from fire death or injury by working smoke alarms.  Most of the fires from which the citizens escaped, occurred in the evening when the occupants were sleeping.  The simple sound of a fire alarm saved their lives.
