Chickasaw County Deputy Charged in Assault

New Hampton, IOWA – On October 4th, 2014, at approximately 11:15 PM, the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding an off-duty Chickasaw Deputy that was assaulting an individual.  Officers with the New Hampton Police Department and Deputies with the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office responded to 2 East Cleveland Street in New Hampton, Iowa.

Johnson County, IOWA -- The preliminary investigation shows that both Bradley Wayne McNeese and the Johnson County Sheriff's Deputy discharged their weapons. The preliminary investigation also shows that McNeese was injured by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. This investigation is on-going at this time.

Former State Employee Charged with Felonies

Oskaloosa, IOWA -- Today, October 15, 2014, Jessica Strasser, turned herself in to Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Special Agents at the Mahaska County Jail in Oskaloosa, Iowa.  Strasser has been charged with Theft in the First Degree, a class C Felony, and Ongoing Criminal Conduct, a class B Felony.

On October 13, 2014, Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to locate a suicidal subject identified as Bradley Wayne McNeese, age 32.  McNeese was located near Swisher, Iowa, by Johnson County deputies and Iowa State Patrol Troopers.

Rockwell City, IOWA--The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Criminalistics Laboratory has completed the analysis on the 300-400 unknown capsules found at the North Central Correctional Facility in Rockwell City. All tests on the unknown capsules came back negative for any controlled substances.

DCI Arrests Former Co-Director of Landfill

Ft. Dodge, IOWA – On Tuesday, July 22, 2014, Michael Dean Grell was arrested by the Division of Criminal Investigation for Theft by Misappropriation in the First Degree.  Grell is the former co-director of the North Central Iowa Regional Solid Waste Agency.  It is alleged that from early spring through the winter of 2012, the period of time when he was the co-director of the landfill, Grell used landfill equipment, personnel and other resources to remove topsoil from his private property.

Wapello County, IOWA -- At approximately 1:21 a.m., Monday, July 21st, 2014, the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a shooting at 4367 91st Ave., which is approximately 4 miles southwest of Ottumwa.  Upon arrival, deputies discovered an unresponsive male.  The man has been identified as Clinton Gus Leedom, age 49, of 11202 Nichol Ave., Bloomfield, Iowa.  Clinton Leedom was found to have suffered a gunshot wound.

Glenwood, IOWA -- On April 30, 2014, officers from the Glenwood Police Department responded to 302 N. Walnut, in Glenwood, for an intoxicated and suicidal subject. That subject was later identified as Joshua Sandlin, age 36. Mr. Sandlin was transported by Glenwood Rescue to Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, where he was pronounced dead.

Tipton, IOWA -- On Sunday, March 16, 2014, at approximately 10:51 A.M., 15 year-old Keifla Thomas Robinson was found deceased in his residence at 507 East 5th Street, Tipton, Iowa, by his family members.  Initial visual assessment of the body revealed no external injuries.  Family members reported that Robinson had been suffering from flu like symptoms and had missed school for a week prior to his death.

Bedford, IOWA -- On April 23, 2014, the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call indicating a shooting had occurred.  Authorities arrived on scene and identified the body of an adult male who had suffered an apparent gunshot wound.  This individual was transported to Heartland Medical Hospital in St Joseph, Missouri where he died.

Maquoketa Police Officer's Actions Justified

Maquoketa, IOWA -- On April 1, 2014, shortly before 3:00 a.m., Sgt. Brendan Zeimet was ending his shift by filling his squad car up with gas at the city lot.  He observed a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck parked on the wrong side of the road in the 200 block of West Grove Street, with its lights off and one occupant.  Sgt. Zeimet called in the location and the plate number prior to stopping in front of the truck to conduct a welfare check on the driver who has been identified as Aaron Edward Scott.

Maquoketa Police Officer Involved Shooting Update

Maquoketa, IOWA -- On April 1, 2014, at approximately 2:51 A.M., A Maquoketa Police Officer stopped to check on a vehicle in the 200 block of West Grove Street in Maquoketa.  The vehicle, a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup, was driven by Aaron Edward Scott.  Scott exited the vehicle with a rifle and Scott and the officer exchanged gunfire.  The officer was shot once in the left forearm and Scott fled the area in his pickup.  The pickup was found a short time just north of Highway 136 on 150th Avenue in Clinton County.  The pickup had been involved in a rollover accident and Scott was deceased inside the pickup.

Officer Involved Shooting Investigation in Maquoketa, Iowa

Maquoketa, IOWA -- At approximately 2:51 AM on April 1, 2014, A Maquoketa Police Officer stopped to check on a blue, 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck that was sitting in the 200 block of West Grove Street.  The officer approached the vehicle, saw the driver with a weapon, they exchanged gunfire and the Maquoketa officer was shot. The injuries he sustained are not life threatening.  Several rounds also struck the Maquoketa Police car.

DCI Releases Finding in Black Hawk County Inmate Death

Black Hawk County, IOWA -- On March 7, 2014, an inmate, identified as James Terrell Taylor, age 34, of Waterloo, was being held in the intake area of the Black Hawk County Jail.  At approximately 6:25 p.m., Mr. Taylor was found to be unresponsive. The deputy who found Mr. Taylor began providing emergency aid.  An ambulance was called and Mr. Taylor was taken to Allen Hospital in Waterloo where he was pronounced dead.

Tipton, IOWA – On 03/17/14 at 9:00 AM, the autopsy of a 15 year- old male, Keifla Thomas Robinson, was performed at the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office by Doctor Johnathan Thompson. No trauma to the body was noted during post mortem examination. Cause and manner of death are pending test results. Additional information will be released when those results are available.

DCI Investigates Council Bluffs Officer-Involved Shooting

Council Bluffs, IOWA – At approximately 5:53 PM, on March 14th, the Pottawattamie County 911 center received a call of a reckless driver in the area of North 8th Street and Avenue D in Council Bluffs.  A Council Bluffs Patrol Officer in the area observed the subject vehicle occupied by one male subject.  The subject attempted to flee the area and the patrol officer located the subject a short time later in the area of North 17th Street and Avenue A in Council Bluffs, where a foot pursuit ensued.  During the encounter with the subject, the patrol officer discharged his duty weapon one time, missing the subject.  The subject was apprehended and transported to a local hospital with a medical condition that was not related to the discharge of the officer’s weapon.

Crawford County Fire Deaths Investigation

Denison, IOWA --- On Monday, March 10, 2014, at approximately 12:45 p.m., the Crawford County Communication Center received a 911 phone call which alerted emergency personnel to a fire at 1872 Milford Road, Deloit, IA. The Deloit Volunteer Fire Department, Denison Fire Department, and Vail Fire Department and Crawford County Sheriff s Office responded to this address to investigate the 911 call where they then discovered the main dwelling on the property, and a pickup truck, were found to be engulfed in flames.

Estherville Police Respond to Homicide

Estherville, IA – On February 27, 2014, at 7:58 P.M. the Estherville Police Department responded to a 911 Call to 2302 3rd Avenue South Lot 108 in regards to a person being shot.  Upon arrival, officers located a female victim, identified as 30 year old Michaela Lynne Jordan of Estherville, with a single gunshot wound.  Officers determined that Michaela Jordan was deceased upon their arrival.  Responding officers were able to obtain witness statements that assisted in the case.

Suspect Arrested for First Degree Murder for the Death of Severn Jefferson

Des Moines, IOWA -- On February 24, 2014, at approximately 4:52PM, the Tama County Communications Center received a 911 call reference a stabbing at 1695 340th Street Tama, Iowa which is located on the Meskwaki Nation Settlement.   The Meskwaki Police Department, the Tama County Sheriff’s Office, and the Toledo Police Department responded to the emergency call.  Upon arrival, law enforcement found Severn Daniel Jefferson (DOB:  10/10/1996) unresponsive. It appeared to responding officers that Jefferson had been stabbed in the chest with a knife.

Man Arrested in Connection With Stolen Vehicle Incident At Burlington Casino

On February 13, 2014, at approximately 6:09 a.m., the Burlington Police Department received information from an individual that heard news reports regarding the incident at the casino.  The Burlington resident advised police that David W. Cross, age 40, was asleep in the back seat of a vehicle located in the 100 block of Shields Street in Burlington.  In addition, the Burlington resident advised that he believed Cross was the subject involved in the incident at the casino the night before. Burlington Police Officers responded and took David Cross into custody.

Oskaloosa, IOWA – The Oskaloosa Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation announce an arrest in the death investigation regarding an 18 month-old girl in Oskaloosa, Iowa.  On February 4, 2014, investigators with the Oskaloosa PD and the Iowa DCI arrested Alicia Marie Ritenour, age 20.  Ritenour is the mother of Ava Ritenour, 18 months old.

Villisca Man Arrested on Multiple Charges

Montgomery County, IOWA -- On January 23rd, 2014, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department arrested Carlton John Dolph, age 31, of Villisca on a Montgomery County warrant for one count of Terroristic Threats, a class D felony, and two counts of Arson in the Second Degree. Arson in the Second Degree is a Class C felony. Dolph was transported to the Montgomery County Jail and was being held on $10,000 bond.

Delaware County, IOWA -- On December 21, 2013, at approximately 2:09 a.m., Dean Dempster III was operating a 2006 Ford F250 on County Road D22/210th Street, east of Earlville, Iowa.  Dempster is alleged to of consumed several mixed drinks and beer at several Delaware County bars prior to losing control of the vehicle he was operating and as a result of the collision Brittany Honkomp was killed.  Dean Dempster III was arrested on Friday, January 10, 2014, for Homicide by Vehicle and is being held in the Delaware County Jail under $500,000.00 Bond.

1984 Triple Homicide Solved After 30 Years - Updated

Ottumwa, IOWA --- The Wapello County Sheriff’s office, Davis County Sheriff’s office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation have resolved the 1984 Triple Homicide of Justin Hook, Jr., age 20, Sara Link, age 41, and Tina Lade, age 19.  Sara Link was the mother of Justin Hook.  Hook and Tina Lade were dating at the time of the homicide.

Parkersburg Man Arrested on Assault and Drug Charges After Assault on Cedar Falls Police Officer

Cedar Falls, IOWA – Twenty-seven year old Zachary Lee Church of Parkersburg, Iowa, was arrested today upon his release from Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa, on two warrants for Assault Against a Peace Officer (708.3A(1)) and Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Deliver (124.401(1)(D)).  Both charges are class D felonies.
