DCI Investigating Incident with Officer Involved Shooting

DES MOINES, Iowa -- On January 17th, 2018, at 8:31 p.m., the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 report of a subject with a gun pointed at his head in a vehicle at Love’s Truck Stop in Floyd, Iowa.  Prior to officers’ arrival, the subject fled the area southbound on Highway 218.

UPDATE - Suspect Arrested After Brief Stand-Off With Shots Fired

Des Moines, IOWA -- The suspect in the Atalissa shooting incident has been identified as Charles Johnston, age 60, was taken into custody and is currently being held in the Cedar County Jail.

Suspect Arrested After Brief Stand-Off With Shots Fired

Des Moines, IOWA -- Iowa State Patrol Troopers and local law enforcement officers responded to a 911 call of  “shots fired” along Interstate I-80 East of the 265 mile marker at the rest area. The suspect then drove west bound and exited at the 265 exit where he fired more rounds at motorists at the BP gas station. Troopers encountered the suspect on County RD X46 where they engaged him and exchanged gunfire. After a brief stand-off Troopers/Officers were able to take the suspect into custody. No injuries were sustained by the suspect or law enforcement.

Des Moines, IOWA -- Since 1921, the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has provided professional support to federal, state, county, and city law enforcement agencies and unwavering service to the citizens of Iowa.  An internship with the DCI will provide a student with the opportunity to experience the variety of services and investigative resources the DCI provide on a daily basis.  A DCI internship will provide exposure to the many different people, places, and things that make the DCI a premiere law enforcement agency.
