Boone, IOWA – On Sunday, January 29, 2012 at approximately 8:02 PM, the Boone County Communications Center received a 911 call in reference to an unresponsive female at 1210 Southview Court in Boone, Iowa.  The Boone Police Department responded to the residence and found Emily Fazzino, 34, unresponsive.  Fazzino was transported to the Boone County Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Robert Taylor was not located at the home.

DCI Investigates Johnson County Death

Johnson County, IOWA --- On October 1, 2011, the Johnson County Sheriff's Office made a request to the Iowa County Sheriff's Office to arrest 26 year old Crystal Hawkins at a North English residence on a warrant/mittimus to serve 30 days in the Johnson County Jail. Upon her arrival and prior to being booked into jail, Ms. Hawkins became ill and was transported to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and admitted as a patient. On October 2, 2011, the Johnson County Medical Examine advised Ms. Hawkins died while being treated at the University of Iowa Hospitals. The Johnson County and Iowa County Sheriff's Offices requested the Division of Criminal Investigation conduct an independent investigation into the death of Ms. Hawkins.

Law Enforcement Officials Conduct Death Investigation in Coon Rapids, Iowa

Des Moines, IOWA --- On Saturday, September 3, 2011, approximately 1:00 p.m. police and paramedics were called to a residence in Coon Rapids for a male that was involved in an altercation.  The male was identified as 28 year-old William Smith.  Smith was taken to St. Anthony Regional Medical Center in Carroll for treatment and later flown to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.  Smith was pronounced dead late Sunday afternoon, September 4, 2011.  An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday in Des Moines.

Pekrun of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

New Troopers, Special Agents Graduate from the Department of Public Safety Academy

Johnston, IOWA--- Today, 24 men and women were sworn in as peace officers with the Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS) at the 35th Academy Graduation ceremony. They will serve their communities as Troopers with the Iowa State Patrol, and Special Agents with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. The officers completed a 22-week training academy designed to prepare them for readiness to serve as law enforcement officers. Elements of their training included the use of firearms, emergency response procedures, first aid and CPR, tactical driving techniques, and courses on Iowa law.

One Dead in Coin, Iowa Fire

Coin, IOWA --- The Coin Fire Department was called to a single family house fire located at 303 6th Street, Coin, Iowa at approximately 8:56 PM, April 12, 2011. Shenandoah fire personnel also responded to provide mutual aid. Upon arrival, fire units discovered the two story home and two adjacent parked vehicles fully involved in fire. The home is owned by 56 year old Trudy McDowell.

Deadline Approaching For Governor's Lifesaving Award Nominations

Des Moines, Iowa --- The Office of the Governor and the Iowa State Patrol encourage Iowans, who have seen or experienced an act of heroism first hand, to nominate a deserving individual for a Governor’s Lifesaving Award. Don't Press Your Luck By Not Buckling Up

Des Moines, Iowa --- Beginning March 17, 2011 and continuing through March 20, 2011, Iowa law enforcement will be out in force looking for traffic violators as part of the special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP). This enforcement event is a statewide project to help change driver behavior and encourage motorists to obey traffic laws with an emphasis on buckling up, slowing down and driving sober. Two Die in Clinton County House Fire, Two Firefighters Injured

Wheatland, Iowa --- At 7:55 a.m. on Tuesday, March 01, 2011, 911 dispatchers received a call that a building at 2329 Memorial Drive was on fire. The building is a farm house that is the primary residence for five people. Three persons were in the building at the time of the fire. One person got out, but two were not able to escape.

Essex, Iowa --- Betsy Luna, age 17, was found safe tonight at a residence in Red Oak. An AMBER Alert was issued at 7:50 p.m. after the teenager was reported missing earlier today from her home in Essex. The AMBER Alert was cancelled at 9:35 p.m.

DCI Releases Finding in Black Hawk County Inmate Death

Black Hawk County, Iowa --- On December 1, 2010, at approximately 2:00 PM, 18 year old Justin Johnson, an inmate of the Black Hawk County Jail, notified a jail deputy that he was feeling ill.  The deputy entered the cell and found that Johnson was having difficulty breathing.  Jail staff requested an ambulance for Johnson and he was taken to Allen Hospital in Waterloo, where doctors declared him deceased.

Driver Found In Eastern Iowa Hit and Run

Tiffin, Iowa --- The Iowa State Patrol has located the driver involved in a February 13, 2011, hit and run on I-80 near Tiffin, Iowa. Shortly after the Department of Public Safety's Division of the Iowa State Patrol began soliciting information on the incident, 53 year old Randall Nelson of Otley, Iowa reported that he believed he may have been the driver involved. Evidence located at the scene confirmed that it was his vehicle.

Iowa State Patrol Requests Public Assistance

Tiffin, Iowa --- The Iowa State Patrol is asking for the public's help in locating a vehicle involved in a hit and run on Interstate 80 near Tiffin. Shortly before midnight on Saturday, February 12, 2011, Maxwell James Wallace, age 18, of Iowa city was killed after he was struck while walking in the westbound lanes, near mile marker 238. The location is just west of the I-80 and I-380 interchange and the city of Coralville.

Victim Found Dead in Lee County Bar Fire Identified

Wever, IOWA --- Today, the State Medical Examiner released autopsy results on the deceased person found yesterday inside the burned Green Bay Tap in Wever, Iowa. The deceased has been positively identified as 47 year old Kenneth Allen Thomas of Denmark, Iowa. The cause of death has been ruled smoke inhalation.

One Found Dead in Lee County Bar Fire

Wever, IOWA --- At approximately 2:34 AM, emergency responders were called to the Green Bay Tap at 3546 170th St. in Wever, Iowa on report of a fire. Once on scene, firefighters battled the fire for several hours before the flames could be extinguished. Due to the extent of damage, the building is considered a total loss.

One Injured in Delaware County School Bus Crash

Sand Springs, IOWA --- One person was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after a vehicle, crossed the center line and struck a school bus in Delaware County. According to the Iowa State Patrol, 30 year old Shawna Beitz of Hopkinton was traveling north on Highway 38 when she lost control of her vehicle and slid into the path of the school bus.

DCI Investigates Child Death Case

Eagle Grove, IOWA --- On Friday, January 7, 2011, emergency personnel were called to 208 North Wright Avenue in Eagle Grove with a report of an unresponsive child.  Mikayla Valentine, age 5, was taken by air ambulance to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She was pronounced dead at approximately 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2011.  Today, Monday, January 10, 2011, an autopsy is scheduled to be performed at the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Fire Marshal Reports 146 People Greet 2011 After Their Lives Were Saved By A Smoke Alarm In 2010

Spirit Lake Woman Found Dead In Morning House Fire

Spirit Lake, IOWA --- While actively fighting a house fire this morning, the Spirit Lake Fire Department was called out to a separate home fire at approximately 9:18 a.m. When firefighters arrive at 2610 Center Lake Drive in Spirit Lake the home was already fully engulfed with flames.
