Captain Andreano was killed Thursday, July 30, 1964, in an automobile accident while responding to a drowning call. As the cruiser he was riding in entered the intersection of Army Post Road and Indianola Road it was struck by a car that ran a stop sign. The driver of the cruiser was injured in the accident and the two occupants of the other car died as a result of the accident as well. None of the four were wearing seat belts.
Captain Andreano had served with the Des Moines Police Department for 22 years. He was survived by his wife, son, and daughter and was 47 years old.
